| Met the
Players! |
On Monday
11th, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th July,
Junior Trust Members had the chance to meet up
with the Rushden & Diamonds manager, coaches,
players and not forgetting Dazzler, at the annual
Meet the Players evenings.
Each evening the players and youngsters were
split up into groups and were able to participate
in various activities on pitch 3. These consisted
of: dribbling, passing, shooting, an obstacle
course and small-sided football matches. The
players appeared to enjoy themselves as much as
the younger participants! Those particularly
getting right into the event were Peter Hawkins,
Rob Gier, Neil McCafferty, Jason Taylor and even
Neville gave a good account of himself in the
football matches on Wednesday. It was great how
all the players gave great encouragement to all
the boys & girls throughout the evening.
Once everyone had taken a turn on each of the
activities, it was then time for the players to
sign autographs.

On behalf of all the Junior Trust members who
came along, Id like to thank all the
players & Club officials for giving us this
chance to meet with them. Remember, if your
friends would like to come along next year and
are not Junior Trust members; make sure they join
us now.

| Northern
Ireland Tour |
The tour
started with a flight from Luton airport, we
landed at Belfast at about 9.00 am on Thursday.
The weather was cloudy and grey. We put up our
tents next to a hedge in a camp site near
Portrush. There were cute rabbits running around
our tents. In the evening we played our first
game against Larne. The new players were playing
well and we won 5-0. Chilli scored 2 goals, Greg
Pearson 1 and Marcus Kelly got 2 as well.
The camping was good. The tents were cosy and
warm but not outside, and they had showers on the
site (even though you had to wait a while for
them). On the second day we went to the Giants
Causeway. We saw these strange shaped rocks. We
counted 5 sides on some of them, like a hexagon.
The fans match before the second game on the
Saturday was good. The oldies against the
youngies. The game ended with a 3-3
draw, only because the oldies fouled our best
player after he had fouled an oldies player
(dive?).
The second game was exciting as Coleraine gave us
a better fight than Larne. In the last few
minutes of the game Barry decided to play for
Coleraine (booo!) his old club. The game ended in
a win for us 5-3 with goals from Andy Burgess and
Phil Gulliver.
After the second game we got on the plane from
Belfast and landed at Luton at around 10.00pm.
The weather was lovely back in England, unlike
the weather we had in Ireland. We enjoyed our
football tour in Ireland and look forward to the
next one.
